Policy Grievance Update – March 23, 2017

The City has announced important changes to the current Driver Evaluation Policy.

Effective March 27, 2017, the following will take place:

  • Members will still go through with the road evaluations conducted by our instructors.
  • Members will now have the choice of taking the DriveAble computer cognitive test or they can opt out and go to their own doctor for a medical assessment. If you choose to go to your own doctor for a medical assessment, the appointment must be booked no later than 2 weeks after your road evaluation. If you choose to take the DriveAble computer cognitive test and pass, no medical will be required.
  • Please note: The City will reimburse up to $415 for this medical assessment to be completed.

After consulting with our lawyers, and as a result of this policy change, the Union will no longer be seeking an injunction against the City.

However, the Union will still be going to arbitration to let an arbitrator rule on the credibility of the DriveAble cognitive test and to rule on the possible damages our members may have suffered.
