All ATU 569 Members,
There had been previous discussions and queries regrading electronic voting for the upcoming elections. Please see below for procedures.
ATU Constitution and General Laws
14.7 Election Procedures and Requirements – paragraph 5
When the election is to be held by voting at the polls, no member shall be entitled to vote unless the member is in good standing and presents him or herself at the polls in person. Where in any LU an election is to be held by a mail ballot, a ballot shall be mailed to each LU member at the member’s last known home address.
We have requested that President Hanley reconsider his interpretation and allow the electronic balloting online for the advance poll. As there would be no “voting at the polls” for the advance poll, Article14.7, above, should not apply. Furthermore, we argued that the use of the online advance poll was an effort to make voting more accessible to more people and, thus, was an effort to strengthen the democratic process.
We have not had an answer from President Hanley yet. Absent an answer from him reversing his interpretation, we will carry on with traditional balloting at the polls.
