At the City of Edmonton, permanent jobs help our members in a number of ways. Health benefits, pensions, stability.
In the past year, City Administration has undertaken a Temporary and Seasonal Workforce Review that has created new permanent, full-time jobs in Waste Services and Parks and Roads Services. This is great news for our members, but there is more to be done! At the fall supplemental operating budget, City Council will debate a service package that would see an additional 264 temporary assignments converted into 151 permanent position.
We urge Council to support this package. This would be a massive change for those members, but this also has a positive impact to the operations of the City. Increased morale and lower turnover, along with reduced costs related to on-boarding and off-boarding mean that this is a change that is good for employees and the employer.
