The Unions representing City workers signed a Letter of Understanding with the City declaring September 30 “a day of honouring and acknowledging Truth and
Reconciliation.”
While it is not, technically, a Statutory Holiday, “the parties agree that the Statutory Holiday provisions of each respective collective agreement will apply on this date;”
Thus, ATU members are entitled to take the day off with pay. Those who are required to work will be paid the statutory day’s pay plus double time for all hours worked. The letter expires at midnight on September 30, so it might not be repeated.
