Utter Disrespect

After a 2 month hiatus in negotiations with the City of Edmonton, we were back in mediation yesterday. You’ll recall that the City forced a vote on their very offensive offer. Remember that offer? The one you said NO! to? 93.27%? Yeah, that one.

Yesterday, in an act of utter disrespect to you and your message, in front of a mediator, they brought back that exact same offer and flopped it out on the table like it was a whole new day. Not so. It was, as I said, the exact same offer but with a third year added. And the pittance of increase they offered, even combined with the 1% they offered for 2022, would fall far short of the inflation rate for 2021. It is a shame.

It’s a shame that they call you frontline heroes and then try to force you to lose ground to inflation every single year. It’s time to stop the pattern of zeros. Time to stop the pattern of contracting out. We need clear language that protects our jobs. We won an important round for cleaners & service persons. Now we need that win for everybody.

Email your Mayor Amarjeet.sohi@edmonton.ca . Tell him how demoralized your workplace is. Let him know the disrespect his administration shows us has to stop. Be respectful, but be firm. It’s time to get a deal. My letter is already in his inbox. Make yours the next one.

When we stand together, We win together!
